1. A five-senses grounding practice

Name five things you can see, four you can feel, three you can hear, two you can smell and one you can taste. This can help bring attention back to the present moment.

2. A reflective journal check-in

Complete three prompts: What am I carrying? What do I need? What is one kind next step? Keep the entry private or share it with a trusted coach when you want support.

3. Gentle movement outdoors

Walk, stretch or sit outside while noticing light, temperature and sound. The goal is not performance; it is a deliberate change of environment and pace.

4. A creative expression hour

Draw, sing, cook, photograph, garden or make something without judging the result. Creative activity can provide language when ordinary words feel limited.

5. A connection ritual

Plan a recurring call, shared meal, class or community gathering. Predictable connection can be easier to maintain than waiting until you feel lonely.

6. A personal values sort

Write ten values, narrow them to five, then ask whether your calendar reflects them. Choose one small action that brings time and values closer together.

7. A low-stimulation reset

For ten minutes, reduce light, sound and notifications. Breathe naturally, release muscle tension and allow your attention to settle without demanding a specific feeling.

8. A strengths and support map

List personal strengths, people you can contact, professional resources and activities that have helped before. Keep the map visible for difficult days.

Wellness activities are most helpful when they expand your choices—not when they become another standard you must perfectly meet.

When to reach beyond self-care

Mental wellness practices can support daily life, but they are not a replacement for professional assessment or treatment. Persistent distress, major changes in sleep or functioning, thoughts of self-harm, or safety concerns deserve prompt support from a qualified health professional. In Canada, call or text 988 for crisis support.
